Mr. Joe Nakayama graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in agricultural engineering on the GI Bill after WWII. With limited employment opportunities in the region following his graduation in 1951, he accepted his brother Carl’s invitation to join him on the family farm in Las Cruces. The family is widely credited for their innovative farming, and is also recognized as agricultural visionaries in the community.

The establishment of the John Kaichiro Nakayama and Tome Miyaguchi Nakayama Endowed Professorships were made possible through the generosity of Mr. Joe Nakayama.
